Hello and a warm welcome to Fireflies
Mr McKaigg is Fireflies class teacher and we are also be supported by both Mrs Allen and Miss Kelly throughout the week.
As children move into Year 2, there is a greater shift towards taught lessons containing fun and engaging activities. There will always be opportunities for learning in a practical, 'hands-on' way, making use of equipment and outdoor areas. During the year, we will be continuing to encourage a more independent approach to learning ready for Key Stage 2.
A typical day in Year 2
During our morning sessions we focus on the core curriculum.
Our Morning Lessons
When the class enter the classroom they will complete a math morning task at their group tables followed by our Phonics/Spelling spelling and then our main maths lesson until break.
After break, we have Writing where we have a focus on handwriting and then we complete tasks based off the current class text followed by Guided Reading.
After Lunch we fill the afternoons with other subjects including RE, Science, History, Geography, P.E., PSHE, Music, Computing and Art or D.T. We then finish the day with Collective Worship and a story.

Can all children come to school ready in their P.E. kits on the days they have PE. Our PE days is Friday taught by both Mr McKaigg and Miss Kelly |
| Reading Books | Children are expected to read everyday at home and their reading record are checked twice a week. Book change days are on a Monday and Thursday, so please make sure you bring your reading book on those days. |
| Forest School | Year 2 have forest school sessions every Wednesday in Autumn term 1 and Spring 2. Please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing, such as a coat and wellies, to protect their uniform. They will be outside rain or shine! |

Home Learning |
Spelling - Weekly Spellings sent home on a Friday for the test the following Friday. Maths - Numbots to improve mathematical fluency - 20 mins a week (Reset every Friday) Numbots Game Reading - As a school we expect reading everyday, with children reading at least 4 times a week receiving a Golden ticket for a chance to win a book |

P.E. Kit
On the days where the class are participating in PE, please come into school wearing PE kit -
- Plain, dark coloured shorts
- White t-shirt
- Plimsolls or trainers
- Optional plain, dark tracksuit or leggings for outdoors/colder weather
- School jumper or a plain, dark coloured jumper/hoody
On the days where the class are participating in Forest School please come into school wearing clothes that are appropriate for muddy/messy activities with a spare change of footwear to wear in the school building
