Spring term - 1st half

Spring 1 Geography

In our Geography learning we have started to learn the names of the five oceans. The children have loved learning the chorus of this new song to help them remember the names.

RE

In our RE lesson this week we have been thinking about the idea that Christians believe the Jesus brings 'good news'. We looked at the story of Matthew the Tax collector and wondered why Jesus chose him to be a disciple.

We thought about who we would choose to be 'world changers'. In pairs, we looked at the skills of some familiar faces. We considered their levels of things such as kindness, experience in leading a group and their popularity. We were only allowed to choose five! There were lots of exciting discussions about who we would have on our team to help change the world and why.

D&T

In design and technology, we have been designing and making our own moving Zog pictures. Children used watercolours to paint the backgrounds and then attached their moving Zog piece. We are all so proud of our work and enjoyed looking at each other's final products!

Maths
Our new topic this week is multiplication and division. We started by recapping equal and unequal groups and worked in pairs to solve different challenges.

Art

This term we are focusing on printing. We started our topic by learning about the sculptor Richard Long and the children were keen to share their ideas and feelings about some of his pieces of work. We then created our own class version of his work, Mud Hand Prints, using mud from our forest school. Some of us were more excited to put our hand in the mud than others!

Journey Day

We focused on Judaism for our Journey Day this term. We learnt about what Jewish people believe, their place of worship and how they show care in the community. We learnt about the Story of Esther and learnt about how Jewish people celebrate Purim. We made Purim biscuits which we were very excited to eat! We also put our cutting skills and perseverance to the test by making our own Stars of David.
