Summer term 2025

Welcome back to the final term of your child's Primary School adventure. I hope you have all had a lovely, relaxing Easter break and are all fully recharged for the term ahead.   This is set to be an extremely busy, emotional but energetic summer term! I have so much planned for the children, I am hoping they will leave Wareham St Mary in July with lots of lovely memories of their time at school but ready for their new adventures ahead.

I have attached the curriculum map for this term along with a Summer Term letter with key dates on. There may be some additions to the dates but I will email out any extras to you as and when.

Day 5 and 6 of Activity Week - Cumulus activity day and sleepover. Y6 have had the best time at Cumulus outdoors taking part in axe throwing, rifle shooting, tag archery and bush craft. It was the hottest day of the year so far but they all coped so well with the heat. They worked well in their teams and showed great support to one another. Home-made pizzas were also enjoyed at dinner time before the children took part in more games in the evening. Finally, everyone settled down in tents at 10pm and the final voices vanished at about 11.30pm! However, it was an early wake up from the peacocks and cockerels on the neighbouring farm at 5.30am!! Once everyone came to, they enjoyed a breakfast of bacon, sausages, hash browns, cereal and fruit before packing up and heading home for 10am. A fantastic time was had by all and many fun memories have been made and will no doubt last a lifetime.

Day 3 of Activity Week - Paulton's Park. It may have been the hottest day of the year so far but it didn't stop the Y6s going on every ride in the park! They went on rollercoasters, in a haunted house, on a carousel, on water rides, met a friendly dinosaur (yes really!) and so much more! Everyone had so much fun and really pushed themselves out of their comfort zones - I heard many children say 'I can't believe I went on that ride.' or 'My mum/dad will be so proud of me for going on my first rollercoaster.' Well done Y6 for such a great day!

Activity Week - Day 2. Burger making...Y6 had a great day making their wonderful burgers today. We had pork burgers, chicken burgers, beef burgers and even an incredible venison burger! The children used skills such as: slicing, grating, chopping, mixing and their favourite skill, tasting, when making their delicious burgers. They were all so proud of their achievement - and rightly so. Well done Y6. :)

Activity Week -Day 1. Y6 have had the best day at the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre but instead of sailing they had the surprise of enjoying paddleboarding and kayaking. They had great fun on the water and were so lucky with the wonderful weather. What a great day they had! :)

History - Timelines. Y6 have been working on their new topic of The Victorians. They began the work by creating time lines in very creative ways - and I can confirm they are the most creative times lines I have ever seen! Well done Y6!! :)

Dragon's Apprentice - today the children in Y6 sold their products at the Market Fair - they did so amazingly well and sold lots of their products to the younger children (and some teachers). They were all so confident and did such a great job of selling their wonderful products - well done Y6! :)

Dragon's apprentice is fully underway. The children have been so busy designing and making their products. The classroom is a hive of activity and everyone is focused on making the best possible product. We can't wait for the Market Fair on Friday.

The Leavers' hoodies have arrived - and don't they look amazing?! Thank you parents for your help and support in providing the children with such a fabulous memory of their time at primary school.

Y6 enjoyed a very relaxed day after they finished their SATs. They were all quite tired so enjoyed making their Arctic animals out of clay and/or cardboard, playing some Danish Longball (a Mr Green special!) and chilling in their dens whilst watching a film and eating snacks. A perfect way to end a very tiring week.

Y6 began a new project today - The Dragon's Apprentice. Not only does this project encourage teamwork, but it also builds confidence, develops new skills that are needed for running a business and introduces the children to a very different way of learning. Watch out Lord Sugar...there will be some Y6 children giving you a run for your money!! :)

SATS SATS SATS! Year 6 have proved once again what a hard-working, determined group of children they are. They have come in every day with a positive mindset and have been prepared to go for it with their SATs. The daily breakfasts have clearly helped as they have nailed the tests and have still had plenty of energy for the afternoon activities. Well done Y6, you are all amazing!! :)

RNLI visit - We started the summer term with a very informative visit from Harry and Georgina, two RNLI lifeguards. They spoke to the children about how to stay safe at the beach and what to do if they got into difficulty. The children learnt about the different flags, how to seek help in a rip tide, who to call in an emergency and so much more. What a super start to the new term, thank you RNLI!

Y6 love sharing their work and this week they proudly showed Y2 their amazing reports about their Arctic creature. The Y2 children listened carefully as the Y6 children told them all about their animals. They they then swapped over and Y2 read their reading books to Y6 - a lovely time was had by all. :)
