Clay Art - Making Maps
This half term, as part of our Art topic, we have been looking at and creating Clay Maps of our own fantasy islands. We used a variety of different tools and techniques, including marking, scratching and slipping. We had lots of fun and enjoyed looking at all the different fantasy islands we could create.
Carbon Dioxide Balloon Experiment.
As part of our materials and their properties science topic, we have been looking at chemical reactions and their results.
This weeks experiment was looking at the reaction between bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We explored how the amount of acitic acid will affect the reaction with the carbonate in the balloon, watching at the creation of carbon dioxide gas.
We found that, the more acid used the greater the reaction and the increased amount of gas created as more of the surface area of the powder is reacted with. But, we also found a saturation point where if there was too much acid or powder it didnt react as well.
