PE curriculum map 23-24
Physical Education is a key area of the curriculum that helps contribute to the overall well-being of our young people. Through a wide variety of skills-based learning and introduction to competitive games, the children of Wareham St Mary Primary School are lucky enough to experience a wide variety of exciting and engaging physical activities. We believe in the holistic approach, not only focusing on the physical aspects of PE but the cognitive, social and emotional also.
In EYFS and KS1, we focus on improving the children’s fine and gross motor skills through a variety of different activities. These skills will help as they progress to KS2 and begin to experience games and more complex challenges such as those in Dance and Gymnastics.
We are lucky to have such a broad range of sports available in school, here are some of the sports we like to offer:
- Rugby
- Football
- Netball
- Tag rugby
- Hockey (Y6)
- Handball
- Dodgeball
- Dance
- Gymnastics
- Multi-skills
- Athletics
- Cricket
- Rounders
- Tennis
- Swimming (Y4 and Y5)
Alongside the fantastic range of sports we offer within our school, our partnership with the Purbeck school and our surrounding schools enables us to come together with others and take part in sporting festivals, competitions and the Bronze Ambassador coaching scheme.
