Ladybirds - Reception Class
Welcome to Ladybirds class. In our class we have our teacher, Miss Fowler and two teaching assistants, Mrs Maguire and Miss Langdon. We lead a creative curriculum where children are the ‘boss’ of their own learning. We learn through play and follow the children’s interests. We are really lucky to be improving our outdoor learning space to ensure children have a chance to experience high quality learning opportunities outside.
Our typical school day includes a daily Phonics and Maths inputs, teacher directed group work for Maths, reading and writing and lots of child led play where children have the opportunity to show off the skills they have learnt. We have PE on a Monday afternoon and Friday morning.
We provide a nurturing Early Years breakfast club for children who need time to settle into class and may need extra emotional and social support. This encourages children to form positive relationships with both peers and adults.
We send home two types of books during the week, a book to learn and a book to love. A book to learn is one in which children are expected to read on a daily basis for 10 minutes. These books follow our Phonics scheme and helps children to become fluent readers. A book to love is a book from our reading corner for parents to read to children at home to create a love of stories.
Books to learn are changed Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Books to love are changed on a Friday afternoon. Each time your child reads their book to learn they will collect a stamp in their reading record. Once your child has collect 12 stamps they will receive a free book!
We also send home a collect of the sounds we learn each week and phonics learning packs for you to use at your leisure at home.
